EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The late stages of the New York Giants Week 9 tilt felt all too familiar ... eerily resembling the typical close game situations of the 2015 season, where the Giants would play with a lead for a majority of the game, only to come out on the losing side in the end.
However, as Ben McAdoo reminded the masses in his post game press conference, 2015 is in the past.
“(2015) is in the rearview mirror,” McAdoo said. “We’re right here, we’re right now.”
Eli Manning threw four touchdown passes, and the Giants defense forced four different Philadelphia drives that ventured inside the Giants 30 to end in no points, and the Giants emerged victorious, topping the Eagles, 28-23. It was the Giants first victory in the NFC East rivalry since October 2013, ending a four game losing streak against their hated rivals.
“It was good to come out and win after the bye, in the division,” McAdoo said. “Now we’ve got to focus and we have to get better. We have to get better in each of three phases.”
The Giants reversed a string of bad first-half mojo on Philadelphia’s first two possessions, as rookie Carson Wentz, this past NFL Draft’s second overall pick, was given an extremely rude welcome to the New York-Philadelphia rivalry. Wentz threw an interception on each of the first couple of Eagles drives, the first to Landon Collins, who recorded his third interception of the season (as well as a game-high 12 tackles), and the other to Andrew Adams, the first in the undrafted rookie’s NFL career.
The subsequent Giants drives led to Manning touchdown throws to a pair of juniors, the first to Odell Beckham Jr. from 26 yards out, and the other to Roger Lewis Jr. from 30 yards out.
“The defense, they’re stepping up, making big-time plays in clutch situations,” Manning said. “They’re playing good football and it’s good to have on your side.”
