The New York Football Giants are coming off back-to-back 6-10 seasons.
It’s undeniable that last year’s debacle of a season was based all around the defense. Yes, the G-Men had the most injuries in the NFL, but there is no excuse for them not to have collected at least 10 wins, cruising through the NFC East as if they were in a convertible driving on a Sunday afternoon.
Just look at the stats on offense: Of the nine teams that scored more than 400 points, the Giants and the Saints were the only ones not to play in the postseason. Why you ask? Again, the defense. The “D” gave up 121.4 rushing yards (25th in the NFL), along with the worst rankings in passing yards (298.9) and in total yards per game with 420.3. Some called it pathetic, mainly because of the way they lost. They managed to lose 5 games while having the lead with two minutes remaining, 4 of which came in the final minute. That tied a league-worst record that goes all the way back to the NFL merger.
The list does continue but we are here to talk about the improvements they’ve made in the draft and free agency, looking towards a dominant D, not only in the NFC East but in the entire NFL. Maybe they will not go from last to first this season but I believe they will be in the top 5.
The former offensive coach, now first time head coach Ben McAdoo at the mere age of 39, is ready to take on that challenge. He preaches nothing but positive energy. That positive energy has already transcended down through every player and staff member. You can see it illuminating off them. It is apparent just by watching the team practice during training camp and their individual Q-and-A sessions off the field. They are ready to play and take the NFL by storm.
In the draft Big Blue’s defensive acquisitions were corner Eli Apple, safety Darian Thompson, and linebacker B.J. Goodson.
