Amit Shah
Minister of Home Affairs and Co-operation
FOR HOME AFFAIRS AND COOPERATION MINISTER Amit Shah, the three years of the BJP government's second term have been a time for consolidation-of his position as the undisputed 'number two' in the government, of his reputation for getting things done. Even BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda doesn't take significant decisions without having the master poll strategist's perspective on it. Shah is also entrusted with the smooth shepherding of decisions born of ideologically important issues, like the abrogation of Article 370 and its political fallout, the passage in Parliament and the debate around the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA, 2019. He was also instrumental in signing peace accords with insurgents in the Northeast.
WHAT'S DONE
▸ Delimitation in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir Talks with Northeast rebel groups and signing of several peace accords
▸ Keeping Maoist violence under check
▸ Gradual relaxation and smooth return to normalcy after two years of Covid restrictions
