The amazing people we meet through the year

As reporters, writing for deadlines sometimes makes us lose sight of all the stories we have written over the course of the year. So, when your boss asks you to recap the highlights of your year, you lean on the archives to remember what you have written.

Going through the 2019 archives, I have been reminded of all the amazing people I have met over the last 12 months. A barber named Deko, who lost his job after the mill in Bucksport closed and had to reconfigure his entire future. He turned his passion for cutting hair into a brand new business.

Tina Salzarulo, a 95-year-old Boston Post Cane recipient from Surry who has called the town her home for so long her dancing shoes are part of the history of the Arbutus Grange. Exercise, eating well and smiling were her secrets to a healthy life.
