Campus clashes with police as US House speaker is caught in protests
RIOT police arrested dozens of students as protests over the Israel-Gaza war spread across US universities.
Demonstrations on the campuses of at least two universities involved clashes with police yesterday, while another university shut down its campus for the rest of the week.
At Columbia University in New York, where the protest movement started last week, the US House Speaker Mike Johnson was heckled during a visit.
Mr Johnson's visit to the Manhattan campus, which he said was meant to support Jewish students intimidated by some anti-Israeli demonstrators, took place shortly after the university extended a deadline by 48 hours to tomorrow to reach an agreement to remove a camp that has come to symbolise the campus protest movement.
