EXPERT WRONG MAN JAILED FOR TYPIST MURDER

Professor David Wilson has examined the case of George Beattie, who was 19 when he was jailed for stabbing typist Margaret McLaughlin, 23, of Carluke, Lanarkshire, in 1973.

Wilson, who grew up in the town, remembered hearing people say that the wrong man was behind bars – and now he thinks he has uncovered the truth.

The academic, who taught criminology at Birmingham City University, has written a book about evidence which he believes points to another man, who lived yards from the woods where the murder happened.
