Public, traders reluctant to accept the coins due to suspicion about their genuineness
A reluctance on the part of public and trade in the Telugu speaking States to accept ten rupee coins is leading to banks building up a pile that is fast eating into the space in strong rooms and proving expensive to shift.
They may be legal tender, a fact Reserve Bank of India had reiterated many a time for some years, yet transacting with them is not easy in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is a rude shock for those visiting from other States. “We are not accepting them,” is a reply they hear often at places where they try paying through the coins.
