Safety guide
No matter how visually appealing your videos are, it is a tough task to watch a silent play of visuals without the accompanying sound. Hence sound has rightly become an integral part of most imaging devices. All high-end and mid-range smartphones and cameras feature reasonably good built-in microphones to aid in video production, but the design limitations of these devices do not allow for a directional microphone that is optimised for the best sound pick up and recording features.
The MKE 200 is a compact entrylevel microphone from Sennheiser, specifically designed to be used with cameras and smartphones.
Design & Build Quality
The MKE 200 is a compact cylindrical device that incorporates a built-in wind screen and shock mount, allowing it to minimise handling noise while mounted on a smartphone or camera. The additional furry windshield provides extra wind protection. The polycarbonate external casing makes it very light at 48 g but feels sturdy. The unit includes a locking 3.5 mm TRS (3pole) jack and a cold shoe mount with a standard ¼-inch tripod receptacle.
Key Features
The Sennheiser MKE 200 is a directional on-camera microphone designed to be used with D-SLRS, Mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and smartphones. However, in our test, we could successfully use it even with a desktop computer for recording.
