American ultra-trail powerhouse Jim Walmsley talks about passion for running.
The impressively versatile Jim Walmsley is well-known for his ultrarunning prowess and won the 2018 Western States 100-Mile with a finishing time of 14:30:04. He was in Singapore recently on a promotional tour with Hoka One One and shared some insights with us.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN LONG DISTANCE TRAIL RUNNING?
Jim: I got started in ultra-running when I was living in Montana. I went hiking a lot and eventually felt that it was more fun to run the trails than just walk them. There is a big community of trail runners there, and I eventually entered my first ultra-distance race in 2014. I have a background in Track & Field running, so I had to rethink what I knew of training to make them applicable to long distance running.
