Looking back at 2020 season

The 2020 season will absolutely be remembered for being one of the strangest and most disappointing in franchise history.
Looking back at 2020 season

A team that showed a lot of promise in the first month and a half hit a midseason spiral that resulted in another crash landing that Raiders fans have painfully become accustomed to for more than two decades now.

Were there some bright spots? Absolutely. But those shiny plays were overcome by the shadow of numerous others that would have been comically bad had they happened to another team. Instead, in their debut season in Las Vegas when they should have been the hot ticket on the The Strip, the Raiders fizzled into another season of being an NFL also-ran.

Silver and Black Illustrated takes a look back at some of what went down in 2020, the things that are worth remembering and the ones that you’ll never want to think about again.

Offensive MVP: Darren Waller added to his incredible comeback story with a record-setting season that came as no surprise to anyone who watched him week in and week out. Waller burned defenses all year long, working to find creases and openings even when opponents knew the ball was going his way. He had his biggest game against the Jets (13 catches on 17 targets, 200 yards, two touchdowns) and had seven games total in which he caught six passes or more. Waller finished with 107 receptions for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns while breaking Hall of Famer Tim Brown’s franchise record for catches in a single season. “I know Tim Brown and I’ve got a great history with him. I know what an unbelievable player he was,” Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said. “When you start throwing Tim Brown’s name around, and you say ‘Breaking Tim Brown’s record’ you’re in rare territory.”

Gruden feeling the heat?

“I know there is a big bull’s-eye on my chest, certainly. If the people want to use that as an incentive, then so be it. I worked for Al Davis in 1998. That was pressure. I was 34 years old. I’ve dealt with pressure before. I don’t really feel pressure. I love the excitement and thrill of competing, and I can’t worry about things I can’t control in that regard. I know people will want to step on me and beat me, and that is just the way this league is.”
