So far, the early tenure of Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera has been unsettling at best, worrisome at worst. It’s hard to assess because Rivera is going through chemotherapy and radiation treatment for cancer, and we really don’t know how it is affecting him. It seems to be having an impact, given the confusing and conflicting responses and results we have seen from the new head coach.
Those who can think clearly though, should just suck up more bad, dysfunctional football which should come as no surprise to anyone given the mess that Rivera inherited. He was told repeatedly it is going to take time to change the culture of this organization.
That said, it is hard for Washington fans to think clearly. For them, this is a one long 143-197-1 start to what they have been waiting for now for two decades – a team that they can be proud of.
For the newest generation of Washington fans, that notion is a foreign concept. For those who came before, they do have one particular start by a Washington football coach to call on as a distant point of reference.
This team has gotten off to both good and bad starts that both proved to be delusional – not evidence of anything other than a bad football team playing good football and a bad football team playing bad football.
