Fitbit's New Luxe Is A Treat
Stuff Magazine|October/November 2021
Fitbit has launched a fitness ticker that looks more like a piece of jewellery than a watch. But will it be able to keep you on track?
Fitbit's New Luxe Is A Treat

In a bid to make the sexiest Fitbit imaginable, the Luxe is designed for those who want style with their stats. It’s a bracelet-inspired fitness tracker with five-day battery life… but is somewhat lacking when it comes to stuff like standalone GPS, NFC, phone calls or Spotify support.

Building from the neat and sleek design of the Fitbit Inspire 2, it’s a touch fancier, swapping plastic for stainless steel (with a matching buckle, naturally). There’s either a silicone band or a steel link bracelet if you want to really embrace it as jewellery. The sporty strap is comfortable even when sleeping and ideal for dainty wrists.

The AMOLED screen is bright, with vibrant colours – only it’s the size of the average thumbnail, which doesn’t leave much room for notifications. And it’s not all that sensitive to touch: you really have to give it a firm prod.

Gym-goers, fitness fans and sleep-aholics are all catered for with 24/7 heart-rate monitoring, step counting and 20 exercise modes plus sleep and stress insights. It’s also fully waterproof for pool-dwellers.

The Fitbit app is a feast of stats, offering detailed breakdowns of heart-rate zones and sleep quality. If you sign up for Premium (R150/m) you’ll get extra mindfulness sessions, video workouts and, following a promised firmware update, SpO2 data.
