Here is what you can do to minimise your impact while you holiday, do your part towards the responsible tourism movement in Goa. Jason Santos takes you through what you can do to chip in.
Fun and frolic underline the tourism industry in Goa. With beaches, parties, heritage attractions and in numerous restaurants dishing out fantastic food, Goa has something for everyone. With several thousands of people visiting every year, Goenkars are more than happy to share their piece of paradise with people from across the globe.
While you holiday and unwind on our sunny shores, remember to do your part to keep Goa clean, safe and a hub for responsible tourists.
DO NOT LITTER: In a global battle being fought against garbage, Goa too has a role to play. It is very simple, do not litter. With the Tourism Department setting up several dustbins and other tourist facilities at every major tourist hub, it should be common practice to use these facilities to keep the place clean for everyone.
DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL ON THE BEACH: While sipping a beer on the beach may seem like the picture perfect definition of chillin’ in Goa, it is not! Glass bottles and the beach are a bad combination. Refrain from drinking or carrying alcohol to the beach. It is also officially banned, so save yourself from getting fined as well.
TRAFFIC RULES KEEP YOU SAFE: Traffic rules are applicable across the country and Goa is the same. Wear your helmets always, ride a bike only if you have a license, drive on the correct side of the road- the list can go on. Basic road etiquette is expected at all times to prevent unnecessary squabbles with other travelers and the cops.
