Skeem Saam’s Kwaito opens up about leaving his law career for acting and how he has to constantly prove himself to everyone around him
SKEEM Saam actor, Clement Maosa (28), fell in love with the stage at a very young age. What most people don’t know is that he is a lawyer by profession.
INVESTING IN HIS BRAND
He wanted to pursue acting as a career, but he couldn’t as his parents saw it as a waste of time. They thought he was too smart to be an actor.
Out of obedience, Clement ended up studying law. But the artist in him refused to die, so he joined the varsity’s drama group. He would spend days attending his course, and used his afternoons to attend acting classes.
On his final year of study, while everyone was trying to secure a work placement, Clement was working on making sure that he doesn’t resort to practicing law.
“During my final year, I realised that there were higher chances that I would practice as a lawyer. That shook me, and I started investing in my brand. I went to more auditions,” he says.
