It was a stupid decision that cost her everything – her career, her freedom and her family.
Former Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman is reeling from being sentenced to 14 days in a US federal prison, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud.
But the true fallout of her actions – a $24,000 payment to ensure her eldest daughter Sophia would be accepted into an elite university – is now being felt, with her relationship with Sophia (19) and younger daughter Georgia (17) in tatters and her future as an actress in doubt.
Felicity’s world fell apart on the morning of March 12, when six FBI agents stormed her multimillion-dollar Hollywood mansion, guns drawn, and handcuffed the star in front of her daughters.
According to Felicity’s actor husband William H Macy (69), who has stood by his wife, her bond with her daughters “exploded” on that day and has yet to be mended.
“Rebuilding that relationship will be a long process,” he says. “From the devastation of that day, Sophia is slowly regaining her equilibrium and getting on with her life. She still doesn’t like to go to sleep alone and has nightmares from the FBI agents waking her that morning with guns drawn.
“[Felicity] hurt her daughters. It was the one thing she swore never to do, and she did it. It’s a great lump of pain she carries with her every night and day.”
