He began his stellar acting career 36 years ago in the movie Nightmare on Elm Street – and it seems the nightmare is far from over for Johnny Depp.
Broke, jobless and branded a wife-beater by the High Court in London, the future is looking grim for the Pirates of the Caribbean megastar – and even a social media campaign supported by more than a million of his ardent fans hasn’t helped.
“His reputation is in tatters,” a celebrity crisis management expert remarked after the 57-year-old actor lost a lawsuit in the UK earlier this month.
“For him to come back will be the equivalent of climbing Mt Everest without oxygen, in his underpants and barefoot.”
Fans of the three-times Oscar nominee have watched in horror over the past few years as his private life very publicly melted down amid accusations of domestic violence by his former wife Amber Heard, 34.
Vigorously denying the allegations, the father-of-two filed a libel suit against a British newspaper that labelled him a “wife-beater” in a headline. Far from clearing his name, however, Johnny instead found himself being declared a “monster” by the British judge.
During the three-week-long court hearing, Amber tearfully – and graphically – outlined 14 instances when Johnny assaulted her.
