Eamonn and Ruth on their toughest relationship moment...
Catching up with Ruth and Eamonn is like meeting up with two friends you haven’t seen for a while. There’s so much to talk about and a lot of laughter, too. Their playful banter, just like on screen, makes you feel instantly at ease. Right now the presenting duo’s careers are white hot and they’ve become a brand in their own right.
In fact, Eamonn, 57, says people are often disappointed when he turns up alone. ‘They always ask me, ‘Where’s Ruth?’ They aren’t interested in me!’
Here the pair, who live in Surrey with their son, Jack, 15, open up about their hardest times, their worst-ever date and why Eamonn is always right in airports.
COLD SHOULDER
Eamonn: Our best date was last December for my birthday. We went to dinner and to the theatre and Ruth made a fuss of me.
Ruth: Our worst date was when we went for a Chinese before going to the cinema. We had a row after I criticised Eamonn’s parking. We got to the restaurant and people recognised us so there was lots of nudging. Eamonn completely ignored me so I tried to do that false thing of, ‘People are looking, so you’d better speak to me and smile at me!’ But he was having none of it. I realised this would be the worst meal but we’d already ordered the food. Lots of people must have left that restaurant saying, ‘Guess who we saw? They’ve had a row as they weren’t talking!’
‘LONELY APART’
R: We like each other’s company. We genuinely like spending time together.
