It's no exaggeration to say that William - and by extension Kate - is heartbroken by Harry's behaviour.

The pair cannot comprehend why Harry would effectively set fire to his family so publicly, with the incendiary claims in his and Meghan's Netflix docuseries and his upcoming autobiography.

King Charles, too, is deeply saddened - after Diana's death he tried to be both parents to William and Harry and, as I'm told, he ruefully tells friends, 'I tried my inadequate best.' Despite all this, Kate still sent Christmas presents to Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, in California, while gifts were received for George, Charlotte, and Louis. No presents were exchanged between the adults.

It was a tough festive period for the Royal Family - their first one without the Queen. Like all of us, they feel loss and grief, particularly at Christmas, which was one of the Queen's favourite times of year.

And while we were tussling over the last purple Quality Street, the royals had a much tougher family argument to try and resolve.
