Great all-rounders
SUPER-SOAP ALL OVER
Few cleansers are more multitasking than the Castile style of soap, a traditional vegetable-based product that takes its name from the Castile region of Spain. It is made in both solid and liquid forms. Vermont Soap’s version works for washing-up, laundry, carpet cleaning, bathrooms, woodwork, walls… and will even clean you! Castile Liquid Soap, from £2.50 for 59ml, liveinthelight.co.uk
ACE IT WITH ALCOHOL
Forget the Martini – vodka doubles up as a cleaning product. Used diluted 50:50 with water, it will get rid of glue residues on walls and hard surfaces, soap scum around sinks, grease from pans and ovens (spray on, leave for 20 minutes and wipe away), and carpet stains (spray on, leave for 2 hours then blot with a cloth). You can even use it neat to buff your jewellery back to shining.
