As well as Rabbie, there's many a GREAT SCOT!

There must be something in the air in Scotland. For such a small country, it seems to have produced more than its fair share of great artists, authors, engineers and scientists. So to mark the birthday of the nation’s bard, Robert Burns (also know as Rabbie), on 25 January, we’re highlighting some of the amazing Scottish innovations that have revolutionised the way we live…

Refrigerator

At times, there isn’t much need for a fridge in Scotland, but it was at the University of Glasgow in 1748 that the first demonstration of artificial refrigeration took place. Professor William Cullen showed his students the cooling effects of evaporation, and even produced s ice. Cullen’s idea was never u ed for practical purposes, b t it became t basis of our m n fridges.
