He was once Hollywood’s eternal bachelor, who swore that marriage and babies were not for him. But fast forward a few years and George Clooney has just become the happiest man alive – with the arrival of twin babies with his lawyer wife Amal.

The overjoyed couple, who wed in 2014, welcomed little Ella and Alexander into the world on June 6, and announced the happy news via a statement through their spokesman. “This morning, Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days,” it said light-heartedly.

After several nights in hospital, the new parents are now settling in as a family of four at their $20 million mansion in rural Berkshire – and our source says they just can’t stop smiling as they marvel at their bundles.

“They’re on cloud nine,” says the insider. “Amal was incredibly calm before the birth and as soon as she laid eyes on her babies, she was overwhelmed with emotion. She’s just crying happy tears all the time. And George is completely smitten. He’s barely left Amal and the babies – cooing over them and taking hundreds of pictures, which he’s been sending to family and friends. He’s bursting with pride.”
