Real Danger!

SAEVUS JUNE-AUGUST 2023

Have we become so insensitive that with all the worrying features before our eyes, we pretend to ignore the loss of this haven? It is time to wake up!

Real Danger!

Tibet, of which Ladakh is a small part in India, is recognized as the "The Roof of the World" because it stands 4.8 km above sea level. The southern part of the Tibetan Plateau is surrounded by the Greater Himalayan ranges and a part of it is identified as Ladakh. Apart from the mighty Indus originating in Mahasarovar lake of Tibet, the other important rivers are Shyok and Nubra.

Ladakh refers to the "Land of Passes' (or las), the habitat of the mysterious snow leopard, and the picturesque and spectacular landforms of the TransHimalayas. The Indian Trans-Himalaya, or the Indian cold desert, extends through Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir to Lahual Spiti in Himachal Pradesh, via Nepal to north Sikkim. The region is considered to be one of the highest inhabited regions in the world, but with the lowest human density. The inhabitants, called Changpa, are either nomadic pastoralist or agro-pastoralist. Being the largest city of Ladakh, Leh enjoys a large number of tourists and visitors. Leh links with many sleepy hamlets and valleys of the district. It is also one of the few remaining Buddhist destinations in South Asia.

OUR CONTINUED THE ENCHANTED JOURNEY IN LAND

Of all the places that I have visited in India, Ladakh stands out as unique, primarily because of its spectacularly beautiful landscape, comprising rugged stony brown mountains, with the occasional snow-capped peaks, and cold deserts. Combined with its delectable cuisine and the outstanding locations and homestays, where I stayed with my husband and daughter, was undeniably one of the best vacations ever.
