Our jobs as automotive journalists fortunately allow us to explore the immense natural beauty that India as a country has to offer. This time around an invite from Mercedes-Benz saw us head to the picturesque valley of Gulmarg, nestled in the Baramulla district of J&K. The agenda to experience the brand new EQE SUV. Following the discontinuation of the EQC, the EQE makes it to showroom floors not as a replacement but more as a second attempt at offering a luxurious all-electric SUV only this time, built from the ground up. Based on Mercedes’ EVA Electric Vehicle Architecture) the EQE seems very promising.
The scenic beauty of Gulmarg needs to be preserved for the future generations and one way of ensuring that is to explore the region with a mode of transportation that has zero tailpipe emissions. It’s a small but substantial step in keeping the air clean and preserving the pristine natural surroundings and vistas in the silence of an EV. The EQE SUV blends into this role flawlessly while adding to the scenery with its absolutely gorgeous exterior design.
The EQE SUV undoubtedly has a futuristic appearance with a jelly bean-like shape that’s fluid, progressive and functional while looking fabulously attractive. The typical SUV visage is proportionately divided with a front-end that’s now becoming a recognisable Mercedes-EQ face. We do wish that the grille was backlit for added oomph. And tech comes loaded with an all-electric Mercedes car. The digital headlamps for instance, use more than two million pixels to adapt to the ambient lighting conditions and illuminate night drives in the best possible way, keeping on-coming traffic in mind by not blinding them. The LED DRL signature is unique too and is mirrored at the rear of the car with the 3D Helix design of the tail lamps that are as artistic as they are functional, uniquely distinguishing the EQE SUV’s road presence.
