Andy Smith was unbeatable aboard the ex-Eddie Cheever March 782 in both Historic Formula Two races, although the similar machine of Matt Wrigley ran him close in the first.
Meanwhile, up to six cars challenged for the lead in the opening Historic Formula Ford event, with overtaking aplenty. Callum Grant (Merlyn Mk20A) took the win by just 0.06 secs from Benn Simms' Jomo JMR 7 (Paddock profile, February), with Linton Stutely (Royale RP3) only 0.113 secs further back. Reliability issues hampered Stutely and Simms in race two as Grant claimed a second victory; Spencer Shinner (Merlyn Mk20/50) was runner-up with Wrigley (Merlyn Mk11A/20) a mere 0.009 secs behind him, having started 27th.

A Breath of Fresh Air- Alfa Romeo's exotic, V8-powered Montreal was like nothing the marque had made before, but can it compare with a Porsche masterpiece, the 911S 2.4?
The stereotype of the ItaloGermanic automotive rivalry is that the Latin car will be brilliant to drive, but poorly built and ergonomically flawed, while the Teutonic will be the opposite. Yet these 2+2 sports coupés both ran against orthodoxy. In the Montreal, Alfa Romeo created an outlandish-looking two-door more comfortable, more powerful and more refined than anything it had produced for decades. Meanwhile, Porsche continued to refine its back-to-front, austere and increasingly aged 911. Neither took a traditional development path, but both created thrilling and individual cars that have echoed through the decades.
