This chief puts a modern spin on American cruisin'
Michael Cowton
Tribal leader

I was riding countryside routes that I sometimes use for test runs. I had no real idea where I was headed. It was that kind of a ride. I recognised some of the village names as the road signs came into view, and I simply followed the road. I was in no hurry and I was thoroughly enjoying myself on board the new Indian Super Chief Limited. But then again, why wouldn’t I, since I already own a Scout.

Indian has pitched the Chief as part of the Cruiser family, nestling comfortably between the Scout and FTR ranges and the bagger/touring models such as the Springfield, Pursuit and Challenger. It didn’t take me long to discover that this particular Chief variant is a dream to ride. Smooth through the gears; nimble around town; and with plenty of torque to fly past traffic.

The seating position is perfect for me, (I’m 6ft). I also found the seat to be very comfortable, so all things considered, I knew I was in for an enjoyable experience over the coming days.

The Super Chief Limited is intended for cruising and longer days in the saddle, and undoubtedly will be measured against Harley-Davidson’s Heritage Classic with its iconic styling. Yet those styles head in different directions.

Whilst the Heritage stays true to its roots and is classically beautiful, Indian has not been afraid to throw a modern twist into the equation.

Ducati Riding Experience

When I rode the Ducati DesertX to France last year, I did have a bit of an explore on some easy fire roads and gentle green lanes in the wilds of the Médoc area, but was left with the feeling that, had I the experience, the DesertX would have been capable of taking me along some more extreme trails to some even more exciting places. If only there was a way of finding out just how well the Italian adventure bike could cope with some more extreme terrain...

First Time Lucky?

It's ironic that the first all-new MV Agusta model to hit the marketplace right after Italy's No.1 trophy brand was acquired by Austrian giant Pierer Mobility, owner of off-road titans KTM, should be the company's first dual-purpose model of the modern era, powered by MV's all-new 931cc three-cylinder engine that's destined to form the basis of a whole series of new models in coming months and years.
