Tom Hanks has one of the most successful careers in Hollywood, and as he and his wife Rita Wilson are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary this week, it’s clear he has one of the showbiz world’s most successful marriages too. Although he and Rita haven’t disclosed how they’ll celebrate the milestone event on Sunday, if their 30th wedding anniversary celebrations are anything to go by, they’ll be cracking open the champers in style.
“That was something else,” the actor says of their pearl anniversary bash, which featured a star-studded guest list including Goldie Hawn, her daughter Kate Hudson, Oprah Winfrey and Jimmy Kimmel. “You know, it’s funny, it seems like it was last year. But that was such a great party that people who were not at that party claimed to have been at that party. That’s how good of a party it was.”
Opening up about why their relationship has lasted so long, Tom, 66, says it comes down to one simple thing. “We just like each other,” he explains. “We learned the secret of happiness with each other a long time ago and that’s always telling the truth.”
While most people agree that even the happiest of relationships require a lot of effort, the Forrest Gump star insists this isn’t the case for him and Rita.
“They say it must be hard work. No, it’s not,” he says. “Every now and again, you know, you gotta get over some stuff, but life is one damn thing after another and it’s actually more pleasant to be able to go home with someone you like to spend time with in order to get with it.”
