Lisa Snowdon tells us she’s used to hearing rumours about her wedding. The model and presenter, 52, who describes her fiancé George Smart as her “best mate”, admits to OK! she is used to speculation over why she still hasn’t quite got around to getting married.
Since their engagement in 2017, This Morning regular Lisa and businessman George, 44, have resisted the pressure to exchange vows, although the idea of a successful and beautiful – but unmarried – woman in her fifties seems too much for some people to wrap their heads around.
“I mean, I love a wedding, I love going to a wedding, I love the idea of it all and I’m always in tears, but do I want to be the centre of attention on the day? Do I need that ceremony? I don’t know,” she tells us, laughing. “So no, I don’t think 2024 is my year for marriage, regardless of what you read!”
The couple have been happily unmarried for almost a decade, but they first had a fling more than 20 years ago when they met at MTV, where she was working as a presenter and George was head of events.
But the timing wasn’t right, with Lisa about to move to America to film LA Pool Party with Tess Daly and Jayne Middlemiss, and, she explains, “because he was 23, so it was never going to work”.
Today, Lisa talks about George with such love and affection it’s easy to see why she doesn’t feel the need for a certificate to cement things in the eyes of the law.
