Ben&J.Lo Where Did It GO WRONG?

On Aug. 20 — exactly two years after Jennifer Lopez married Ben Affleck in a lavish, star-studded affair at his Georgia mansion — the Atlas star filed for divorce from the actor, putting an end to months of speculation about the state of the couple’s relationship.

While one source close to Lopez tells Us the timing of her filing “was a big ‘f**k you’ to Ben,” a second source insists the split is a friendly one, noting that despite their best efforts to make things work, they ultimately weren’t compatible enough.

“It just wasn’t a good match,” says the source, “and with time, that became more and more evident. They are two very different people; that’s what it boils down to.”

Quick Demise

Lopez and Affleck reconnected in 2021 following a nearly 20-year break and embarked on a high-profile whirlwind romance. It became obvious there was trouble in paradise in mid-May, when Affleck, 52, moved out of their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion. He spent most of his summer working in L.A., while Lopez, 55, headed to the Hamptons, where she celebrated her July 24 birthday without him.

In the divorce papers, Lopez cited their date of separation as April 26, and the second source says they had begun a trial separation that month. “While spending time apart, it became obvious it wouldn’t work,” explains the source, adding that although Lopez was initially hopeful they could come back together, she eventually saw the writing on the wall. “She came to the realization that things weren’t going to change.”
