It’s a typical day at the Grazia office when studio and film PR agencies bring in new, soon-to-debut actors for a quick round of introductions with the editorial team. That’s how we first met Sharvari Wagh, back in 2019, a new face at the YRF stable after eons which sparked curiosity about the young actor. Dressed in a white shirt and blue denim, Sharvari appeared as the quintessential newcomer, fresh-faced and eager to begin her onscreen journey and acquaint herself with the media.
While 2020 brought challenges, many, including Sharvari, patiently bid their time to make their debuts on screen or otherwise. Her first film, Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021), eventually released theatrically amid pandemic drama, but it’s safe to say that the sequel couldn’t overshadow the OG joyride starring Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan (meanwhile, she made her acting debut in the OTT series, The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye in 2020, directed by Kabir Khan). Cut forward to 2024, Sharvari’s second theatrical outing, a horror-comedy film called Munjya, was a runaway hit, finally giving her the space and attention she had been working for the three long years since her debut. Within weeks, another Sharvari-starrer, Maharaj (directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra), made a well-received appearance on Netflix.
“I think it’s been an overwhelming year so far, but I’m so grateful for it. Munjya was my second film in theatres, and it’s a big blessing that the film did what it did. It allows actors like me to put more work out there and get the kind of roles I’ve wanted for so long,” says the 27-year-old actor, “It empowers me in that way.”
