When I am wearing my journalist hat and people ask me what my favorite wine region is, I deflect. I can't play favorites while in that role.

But there is a region I love. When I was a boy of 8, my father took me to France for several months while he was a visiting professor in Paris. At the end of the semester, we traveled south, staying in the small town of Arles. The trip was formative for me. I was at the point in my youth where I was realizing there was a large world out there, full of things to learn about and appreciate.
