APPLE CINNAMON OLD-FASHIONED

Created by Lisa Brazil, food and beverage manager at DEVIL'S THUMB RANCH RESORT'S RANCH HOUSE RESTAURANT & SALOON IN TABERNASH, COLORADO I SINCE 2021

"When growing up in the Rocky Mountains, hot cider was a staple for chilly nights and brought a comforting, warm sense of coziness and family. I wanted to create an adult version of this memory," says Lisa Brazil, whose "adult" ingredient of choice is Bourbon.

"Bourbon has such a unique sweetness with hints of vanilla, nutmeg, even caramel, which contrast and complement the sour of the apple." This drink is simple on the surface, but that means it leaves plenty of room for creativity. You can replace the apple cider with several slices of apple muddled in the glass. Or, you can skip the ice altogether and serve it warm by using hot cider.

UP YOUR GARNISH GAME

Brazil likes to freeze slices of apple in her ice cubes for serving this drink, and she suggests using a cinnamon stick as an aromatic stirrer.

2 teaspoons Cinnamon Simple Syrup (recipe below)

2 teaspoons Cinnamon Simple Syrup (recipe below)

2 to 4 dashes Angostura bitters 2 ounces Four Roses Bourbon Orange twist

Shake the first 3 ingredients together, add Bourbon and stir. Pour the mixture into an oldfashioned glass over a large ice cube. Flame the orange over the glass, rub it on the rim and drop it in.

Cinnamon Simple Syrup

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

½/2 cup water

½/2 cup sugar

Combine the ingredients in a pot over low heat. Stir the mixture until the sugar is dissolved. Allow the syrup to cool before use.

Restaurant Awards- Lazy Bear- Lazy Bear bills itself as a modern American dinner party. But it's so much more.

Lazy Bear bills itself as a modern American dinner party. But it’s so much more. This Mission District restaurant effortlessly strips away the formality of a multicourse dinner and replaces it with conviviality, nostalgia and curiosity. With reverence for time and place, Lazy Bear is an ode to California where guests dine in concert with the season and can explore diverse wines, including an impressive collection of older California vintages.
