Diet like the OLD DAYS

Diet fads come and go, but if you want to lose weight and feel better, harking back to the habits of the 1940s could be something of a game-changer.

'Even though diet trends have changed dramatically, there are some healthy eating habits from that time that will never go out of fashion,' says consultant nutritionist Shona Wilkinson.

If you're looking for ways to tighten your belt in both senses, there are plenty of tips to be taken from an era when times were hard and shortages forced people to adapt their diet. From reducing your plate size to eliminating calorie counting, here's how to eat the retro way, and feel great from the inside out.

'Getting into good habits like structured meals at a table means paying more attention to your food, eating mindfully and feeling satisfied afterwards,' says Shona. 'You might find yourself needing smaller portion sizes and not feeling as hungry after meals.'
