HEART FELT

WALL ART

Spark that snug feeling in your space with a wordy piece of wall art homebodies, cosy queens and slumber kings will love. Use the template to cut letters nice and curvy, for a dreamy look, and fix these felty word-cuddles to the canvas with blanket stitch (of course). Burgundy, cornflower blue and vanilla yellow keep the tone gentle and, whether hung on the wall or leaning, this piece will make you feel right at home.

CUSH ION

Switch up your décor to suit the new season with this trio of toadstools design. Add autumnal accents to your favourite velvet armchair by appliquéing soft-to-the-touch felt on to a comfy cushion. Combine seasonal burgundy, mocha and cornflower blue felt pieces to yellow fabric to keep it sunny, and dot French knots onto the toadstool tops for a tactile finish. Backstitch gills on the undersides to complete the look.

What is hand stitching?

Hand stitching is simply the term for sewing by hand with a needle and thread, without the use of any machines at all.

What materials/tools do you need?

This depends on the sewing project you are planning on. But generally, if you have a basic sewing kit consisting of needles, pins, scissors, some threads and pieces of felt, then you will be able to get started on some hand-stitching practice.

What space/set up do you need?

You can get started on any chair! But it is helpful to have a clear, flat surface nearby for cutting fabric and laying out your tools. Sitting at one end of the kitchen table is a good place to start or, for smaller projects, use a lap tray while sitting on the sofa.

What craft items can you make using hand-stitching techniques?
