"Woods and whites are my favorite combination, especially for this season," she says. "Fall is the time you want to bring the warmth inside with wood tones."

CONSIDER THE SPECIES. Some woods have better graining patterns than others. Pine, cedar and birch are some of the best woods in terms of their grain. "We chose a pine wood for our farmhouse table because of its bold graining, Krista says. If there's no wood species listed for the table you're considering, ask the seller.
