It would be hard not to be attracted to a house that offers “the potential to be awesome”, and this was the situation for Belinda and Andy who, in their search for a property to buy in 2020, came across this Federation-era bungalow on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. The location and spectacular harbour views were impressive but the four-bedroom house “needed a lot of love”.
The couple liked that it was an older home but they quickly engaged a structural engineer to discover if their plans to open up the house were viable. Once they received the tick of approval Belinda contacted Cate Liedtke, director and design principal of Catherine de Meur Interiors and the pair worked together via zoom during 2021, formulating a plan for the house.
High on the owners’ wish list was to introduce sightlines from the living area to the panoramic city, bridge and harbour views at the rear of the property, as well as creating more open-plan living for themselves, their young daughter and two cats. A white colour palette and curved detailing were also requested.
