WHERE THE ART IS

Spotting the potential in this once "dark and gloomy" house, acclaimed photographer Alana Landsberry and her husband set about transforming it into a stylish yet serene sanctuary for their family.

WHERE THE ART IS

Owner Alana Landsberry says the octagonal foyer and its six-metre-high ceiling won her heart immediately. Lights, Papaya. Amara coffee table, Globe West. Cushions, Saardé. Vintage glass vase, Southern Antiques. Barnacle vase, Sentosa Furniture Warehouse. For similar pendant lights, try Living Styles.

Alana in the sitting room. Janelle sofa, Luxo Living. Eula coffee table, Hue-Gah Home. Huggy chair, Sarah Ellison. Platter, Seed Heritage. Bowl, Saardé.

The living room showcases the home's Spanish Mission elements, including exposed beams, arched doorways and a detailed wrought-iron balustrade. A 1981 painting by Tony Crago hanging on the second-level walkway was left behind by the previous owners and is a view of Middle Harbour painted from the verandah. "I rescued it and had it reframed. Now, it's one of my favourite pieces," says Alana. Cushions, Saardé. Chair, Sentosa. Hamptons carpet, Bremworth.

"The home was dark and dungeon-like before... I love the way the light bounces around now." ALANA

Fremantle-based artist Desmond Sweeney's Another Time and Tide hangs in the sunken bar. Chair, Freedom. Cushions, Lucy Montgomery. Floor lamp, West Elm.

A mirror bought at Pickles Auctions hangs above a console from Sentosa in the octagonal foyer. Walls painted Dulux Natural White (throughout).

A floor-to-ceiling expanse of mirror in the sunken living room visually expands the space. Trunk coffee table, Uniqwa Collections.
