Maximize natural light.
A cramped kitchen was transformed into an airy space perfect for the family's frequent cooking and entertaining.
Designer Jess Weeth of Weeth Home expanded the layout by seven feet and chose custom glass-front upper cabinets from Unique Kitchens & Baths to reflect sunlight coming through the large windows.
ADD A COUNTER IN THE PANTRY.
For additional prep and decor space, Weeth added a butcher-block counter in the pantry and tucked small appliances into cabinets by Unique Kitchens & Baths. A brass rail for hanging pots and utensils keeps the space organized. The area "looks beautiful and is very functional," she says.
GO TONE ON TONE ON TONE.
Browns and beiges don't have to be boring. For a "collected and comfortable" feel, a camel-colored velvet sofa from Serena & Lily is paired with a dark wood coffee table and brass decor accents.
"The colors can go with any season," says Weeth.
Put a laundry area in the mudroom.
This multifunctional design is as practical as it is pretty. Formerly the powder room, one of the family's entrances now features cabinets by Unique Kitchens & Baths to store the kids' backpacks and a pullout drying rack. Plus, dirty sports uniforms and swimwear can go straight into the washer. Slate flooring and an antique rug infuse warmth.
