In the Milanese home of architects Federica Gambigliani Zoccoli and Giovanni Maria Sacchi, an imaginative approach has created a unique, characterful and warm home, where there's a new surprise at every turn

- KATIE PIKE

A true ORIGINAL

Think architect-designed home, and you might automatically picture a sleek, modernist build – all sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows, minimal decor in monochrome shades and perhaps even brutalist concrete floors. Not so for architects Federica Gambigliani Zoccoli and Giovanni Maria Sacchi, whose Italian apartment is something of a revelation. Walls – and, in the case of the living room and bathroom, ceilings – are highly decorated with rich, earthy colours and intricate motifs. Floors, meanwhile, retain the original Palladiana Arlecchino tiles (traditional Italian terrazzo mosaics) and the furniture and accessories span the eras, with the old (there’s a Rodin) sharing space with mid-century lighting and newly designed sculptural pieces.
