In bringing this impressive period property in London back to life, its owner, Alice Merritt, has combined bold prints and quirky antiques to create a glamorous yet lived-in feel

In Alice’s corner of curios lives an antique taxidermy zebra, affectionately called ‘King Julius’, that the couple found at auction. ‘We loved him the minute we spotted him,’ says Alice. ’We were told he died of natural causes.
It’s lovely he’s been preserved; he’s such a beautiful animal.’ FACING PAGE Alice has painted the ceiling a deep grey, adding drama to the living room, and creating a striking contrast with the vintage-look jungle wallpaper from Rebel Walls. When pulling up the carpet, Rhys discovered beautiful original tiles, hidden beneath a granite hearth.
