Winter has arrived and with it comes the bittersweet isolation of the cold. While fires blaze in some homes, others are busy wrapping up in cosy jammies, fluffy socks and the blankets that are just the right tog to only be welcome in winter.

Just why is winter so very bittersweet? Is it that as humans we are prone to dissatisfaction no matter where we find ourselves? Is it the confusing darkness as we adjust to shorter days or added padding with every step outdoors? Or is it simply that so many people prefer sunshine, outdoor entertaining and comfortable, airy layers that are easy to throw on?
