THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

Relieving the year in sports where matches came thick and fast, leaving very little time for contemplation of what we witnessed

“It was fun, thrilling, and limitless. These platitudes inevitably creep in when you try to describe any year in sport. For what else are sporting spectacles if not the whirlwind of these emotions? The giant wheels of sports purred relentlessly, inundating us with stories of different shades of humanities, of the same old triumphs and setbacks, of some defying the limit of physical possibility and others succumbing to its constraints. It was the year of the Olympics, the spectacularly sanitised spectacle of bodily spirits where the stories of excellence cut through the gaudy business of the spectacle. There always was something for everyone around the year. Even those with the most gluttonous appetite for sporting actions must have contemplated taking a break of some sort at some point. As the year dwindles off, we look at the highs and lows and everything in between from the world of sports.
