BREGUET: CLASSIQUE 7145
Breguet's Year of the Snake timepiece shows off several of the house's artisanal skills, one of them being the art of guillochage. Involving the use of rose engine lathes, which are vintage hand-operated machines that can create geometric patterns, guillochage was first used by Breguet's eponymous founder, Abraham Louis Breguet, in the late 18th century to decorate his watches.
Presented in a 40mm rose gold case, the snake-themed Classique 7145 depicts the sinuous body of a serpent amid swirling greenery. The outlines of these forms were hand-engraved, while the spaces are filled in with various guilloché patterns – a challenging task given the small dimensions of a timepiece. Adding a vibrant finishing touch is the green lacquer used to colour the foliage.
BLANCPAIN: VILLERET CALENDRIER CHINOIS TRADITIONNEL 2025
Following up on its Dragon-themed watch from last year, Blancpain's latest zodiac-themed timepiece similarly features a green Grand Feu enamel dial. Instead of red gold, however, the 45.2mm case in this instance is made of platinum. As with its previous zodiac-themed timepieces, Blancpain's new Villeret Calendrier Chinoise Traditionnel features a complex Chinese calendar along with thematic details: An aperture at 12 o'clock reveals the year's zodiac animal, while the rotor – visible through a sapphire caseback – is engraved with a snake motif.
IWC: PORTOFINO AUTOMATIC MOON PHASE 37 “YEAR OF THE SNAKE”
Taking a more understated approach to its Chinese New Year offering, IWC’s festive novelty features a burgundy dial – a subtler but still auspicious alternative to firecracker red – that plays nicely with the golden moon and stars of its precise lunar display.
