My daughter Tilly, six months, M giggled as waves kissed her feet.
'Splish, splash,' I cooed as I held her in the salty water.
It was a gorgeous 30-degree summer day at the beach and, after playing in the ocean, we sheltered under our beach umbrella.
After a few hours, it was time to go home, so I lugged our things up to the car.
Knowing it would be sweltering hot inside, I rolled down the windows and blasted the air conditioning before getting my bub ready to go home.
Taking Tilly out of her wet cossie and changing her into a nappy and singlet, I buckled her into her car seat.
But on the 45-minute drive home, Tilly was restless and whinged uncomfortably.
She must have wind, I thought.
But when we pulled into the driveway and I unbuckled Tilly, I spotted a bright red mark in the shape of the seat buckle on her upper thigh.
I've burnt my baby, I fretted, bursting into tears.
I'd had no idea the buckle could get so hot.
The burn on tiny Tilly's leg had already begun to blister.
Thankfully the buckle had cooled down by then.
I rushed to the nearest medical centre, where a doctor dressed the wound, and gave me instructions to change the dressing every day for two weeks.
'It happens quite a lot.
Just park in the shade next time or cover the buckle with a muslin cloth,' he advised.
Feeling horrified, I began searching for a product that'd protect my bub from ever being burnt in the car again.
But the product I was looking for didn't seem to exist.
