MY BOY'S NOSEBLEED was deadly

Rushing around the house, I felt a flutter of excitement. For the first time in five years, my husband Alex and I were having a date night. My sister would be looking after our kids Sophie, five, and Max, three.

Just then, Max came running in sobbing, his nose bleeding. 'Come here,' I said, pinching his nose.

Usually happy and healthy, for weeks Max had been passing blood clots when he blew his nose. Our GP wasn't concerned.

But now Max's nose just wouldn't stop bleeding. Tiny red dots also popped up on his wrist. 'Let's go to Emergency,' Alex said, so we took Max to St George Hospital.

Max had a blood test. 'It could just be a virus,' the nurse said. As Alex went to pick up Sophie from daycare, Max and I waited for the results. 'His bloods look abnormal,' a doctor said.
