There's a mesmerising world of aviation history just waiting to be explored in the hangars of the National Museum of Flight
EVER wanted to ask an RAF jet pilot what it was really like to fly a Nimrod? Well, you can do that and more - if you sign up to weekend Hangar Talks at the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian.
Former pilots are among the visitor experience assistants guiding you around the operational conservation hangar at East Fortune Airfield, giving you a unique chance to see aircraft that served in conflicts across the world - as well as see impressive missiles.
"It's a fantastic collection that covers almost all of the 120-year history of flight, and is a great opportunity to engage with our staff and hear them tell you stories about the fascinating objects we have in our collection," says lan Brown, aviation curator at National Museum of Flight.
Up until last year, the conservation hangar was closed to members of the public, so lan is delighted it has now reopened after nine years.
