ISRAEL launched air strikes on a refugee camp in Rafah minutes after the International Court of Justice ordered it to halt its offensive in the overrun city.

Judge Nawaf Salam said the court had observed "with regret, the catastrophic living conditions of people in the Gaza Strip has deteriorated further", especially prolonged and widespread deprivation of food.

The United Nations court - based in the Hague, the Netherlands - also directed Israel to open the Rafah border crossing with Egypt for the entry of humanitarian aid at scale. It further said Israel must ensure investigators can access the Strip.
