JOE Biden is poised to kick off the Democratic National Convention tonight with a speech passing the torch to the next generation.
Just weeks after withdrawing from the White House race he will address thousands at the event, during which Kamala Harris will formally accept the party's presidential nomination.
Mr Biden is expected to celebrate his achievements, highlighting efforts to rebuild the economy after Covid, tackle climate change and safeguard democracy amid authoritarian threats.
The US president, who is quitting after fears about his fragility, will also focus on uniting a deeply divided nation before endorsing his intended replacement.
Vice President Ms Harris will close the four-day Chicago convention by laying out her vision for the next four years.
