EX-LUMBERJACK: I DIDN'T FELL TREE

A FORMER lumberjack quizzed by police over the felling of the iconic Sycamore Gap tree has insisted: "I'm not that stupid."

Walter Renwick, 69, has denied having anything to do with cutting down the landmark alongside Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland last week.

Before detectives started searching his home last Friday, the farmer said: "The speculation is bloody ridiculous.

I'll tell you this much, I wouldn't be so sad to do that.

"It was a lovely tree, an iconic tree. I mean, to go up there and cut that down, I'm not that stupid."
