IN THE PALM OF MY HAND

IT was 1962 when Arnold Palmer rocked up at Royal Troon with six wins under his belt that year and aiming to make it seven to claim the Claret Jug.

Now it's 2024 and Scottie Scheffler is here on the west coast of Scotland looking to achieve a similar feat.

Not since Palmer's heyday has someone arrived at The Open in such sparkling form.

The golfing great had also won the Masters in April of that year. The latest man to win the famous Green Jacket? Scheffler, of course.

"That would be great," said the world No.1 when asked if he could replicate Palmer here this week.

"I love the history of the game, and there are certain things that I know and certain things that I don't. That was something that for some reason I just never stumbled across. I had no idea."

Palmer's victory in 1962 was the first of a run of six American winners on this course at The Open.
