BRITAIN edged towards war against Iran-backed Houthi fighters yesterday, warning of consequences after a Royal Navy warship had to open fire on multiple attack drones.

Destroyer HMS Diamon. joined US navy combat ships in downing a barrage 0 missiles fired at her and other shipping targets in the Red Sea the largest attack in weeks.

Houthis have been stepping up maritime attacks as the Israel-Hamas conflict spills into the wider region. Last night more European warships were steaming towards the area including UK frigates HMS Richmond and HMS Lancaster and several Italian vessels.

Up to 18 explosive drones, two antiships weapons and a ballistic missile were fired by Yemen-based Houthi rebels.

There were no injuries to crew and no damage sustained to Diamond. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps hinted at military operations against Houthis if the assaults continue, saying "enough is enough".
